in the absence of grander ideas

When the bigger words fail me,

I find myself

Reverting

To the memories

Of former loves,

Lost chances,

Failed emotions,

Kisses

That changed

My entire world.

In the absence

Of grander ideas,

I wander

Back

To them

And their fingerprints

Left behind on my memories-

Rehashing how

I failed,

They failed,

We failed

To make it

Last.

The successes,

Though few to begin with,

Pop up

In memories

Much less

Often

Than the failures,

The hurts,

The painful regrets

Of mistakes made

Or promises broken.

Each delicate kiss

And touch of soft skin

Forever

Remains

Just below the surface

At all times

When the greater concepts

Fail to emerge

For the sake of creativity.
