Boiling Mysteries

It’s hard

To be

Particularly poetic,

When my thoughts

Are

Drifting

Much more

Toward

The pornographic.

It’s hard

To picture

A field of poppies

Bathed in sunlight,

As if kissed

By God,

When all I can see

Is her

Skin

Glowing beneath

The same sun,

Kissed by my lips

And touched

By my hands.

I can remember

The smells

Of street markets,

With boiling mysteries

In open air

Kitchens,

But they are

Much less

Real

Than the smell

Of her

Hair

Deep in my nostrils,

Deep in my lungs,

Deep in my memory,

Deep within me.
